Many homes in the US have a centrally located thermostat that you have to physically access to adjust the temperature. In some homes, there are thermostats in every room, but these still have to be accessed physically to adjust the temperature.
These types of thermostats don't allow you to control the heating in your home remotely which can be inconvenient at times. Whether you're just too tired to walk to where the thermostat is, or you forgot to turn off the furnace before leaving for work, being able to control the heating from a distance can be very convenient. How can you manage this?
Remote Control Thermostats
There are thermostats that come with their own remote control device, similar to what you get with TVs and other devices. This remote control allows you to adjust the temperature and other settings for the thermostat as long as you're within range. The range will be determined by the type of technology the device is based on.
If the technology used is infrared, the remote will need to have a direct line of sight to the thermostat's sensor. If it uses Wi-Fi technology, it'll need to be within a certain radius.
Smart thermostats are the next level of remote control thermostats. These are more like an upgrade of the thermostats that use Wi-Fi technology. The difference is that they come with a host of features that allow for the thermostat to be connected to the home's wireless network, making it a part of your 'smart home'.
These thermostats can even be synched up to mobile devices, enabling you to control it and other smart appliances in your home from anywhere. This is a great feature in case you just remember about your heater once you're already on vacation.
Motion Activated Thermostats
With a motion activated thermostat, you don't even have to worry about turning on the heating. The system can be installed in such a way that turns it on as soon as you enter a particular room. If you have a zoned heating system in your house, this will allow for the heating to only be directed to areas where it is actually needed. When you leave these areas, the heating will also stop on its own.
To ensure your system is effective, have a company like Newton's Electrical,Plumbing,Heating and Solar install them. This will ensure that both your house and system are ready.
